Information about residential fees and charges
Fees and charges for residential care can be confusing, but we are here to help you understand them. Please call 0419 106 817 if you need help.
Why are there fees and charges?
The Australian Government controls fees and limits how much you can be asked to pay for aged care. The Government also subsidises aged care, but people are expected to contribute to the cost of their care if they can afford it.
What fees and charges are there at Monash Health homes?
There are 3 types of fees charged depending on which home you choose, the type of room you choose, and your income.
Basic Daily fee
What is it?
The basic daily fee is paid by everyone living in a care home.
How much does it cost?
It is 85% of the basic single aged pension and is calculated by the Government.
What is it for?
The fee covers living costs such as meals, power and laundry.
Means-tested Care fee
What is it?
If you can afford it, the means-tested care fee is your contribution towards the cost of your care.
How much will it cost?
The Department of Human Services will work out if you need to pay this fee based on an assessment of your income and assets.
Accommodation fees
What are these?
Some people will need to pay the accommodation fee. It is a means tested fee and depends on your income and assets.
How much will it cost?
The Department of Human Services will work out if you have to pay this fee after your assessment.
What is it for?
The accommodation fees depend on the home and type of room you choose.
At Monash Health we offer three ways you can pay the accommodation fee. These are the:
- Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD)
